Yes, students can work a maximum of 20 hours per week (964 hours per year) while studying in France. Foreign nationals holding a temporary student residence card are allowed to engage in paid employment in France, without having to apply for a work permit. Since June 1, 2009, the same rule applies to students holding a student long-stay visa, the equivalent of the residence permit, during the validity period of the visa, which is at least one year.
